Dear Gregory

Thanks for taking the time to provide us with feedback on your Rio.

We’re sorry the performance of your car doesn’t yet meet your expectations. There are many factors that may lead your new car to have fuel consumption that differs from the officially published figures.

The engine in your car is built with very fine tolerances - it will gradually become more efficient over time and can take several thousand miles before it is at its most economical.

Please take a look at our ‘Driving Towards a Greener Future’ publication - www.kia.co.uk/new-cars/ecodynamics.aspx This will provide you with information on how to boost your Kia’s MPG, greener driving, government consumption and emissions figures and lots more.

Thanks again for your feedback and please do get in contact if we can be of any further help – 0845 6017521

Economical though I have not managed to reach the quoted figures, but who does? Good around town and not to bad on a long motorway run.
Slightly harsh over potholes, and gear selection very vague sometimes.

Dear Geoffrey

Thanks for taking the time to provide us with feedback on your Rio.

We’re sorry you’re disappointed with the way your car drives and that a spare wheel isn’t provided as standard.

Over the past few years car manufacturers have been replacing the traditional spare wheel with alternative ‘get you home’ puncture solutions. Spare wheels are both bulky and heavy, they take up valuable luggage space and the extra weight has a detrimental effect on fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Research shows the average driver will only get a puncture once every five years or 44,000 miles, therefore it doesn’t make much sense to carry a spare wheel around all of the time. Your new car is equipped with a Tyre Mobility Kit that uses a sealant to fix the puncture and a compressor to inflate the tyre. This repair will allow you to drive to the nearest dealer or tyre retailer at a maximum speed of 50mph.

We hope you find this information useful but please give us a call if you have any other questions – 0845 6017521.

Thanks again for your feedback.

The Rio is Kia's entry in the supermini class and a cheaper alternative to the Ford Fiesta. All-new for 2011, it continues Kia's march upmarket and benefits from smart, contemporary styling, generous space inside and an appealing engine range – two diesels (1.1-litre and 1.4) and two petrols (1.25 and 1.4). Of these, the smaller, 74bhp diesel is Britain's lowest-emitting car, at 85g/km, meaning tax-free motoring. It also delivers a claimed 88mpg. Both five-door and three-door versions will be available; the former arrives first, in September, with the latter hitting the road in 2012.

As Kia’s star has risen over the past couple of years, the Rio has looked a little outdated, but its shortcomings have been addressed with the all-new car and it is now a genuine contender. More spacious, more refined, superior to drive and markedly better quality than its predecessor, it thoroughly deserves to be on the radar of supermini buyers. It seems certain to deliver on Kia’s intention of claiming a bigger slice of the supermini sector. The move upmarket, however, comes at a price, with the model likely to start at £10,500 in the UK - £2,000 more expensive than at present. Top-spec versions could even reach £15,000. It still represents better value than most rivals, though.
